Which macOS versions are supported?
macOS 13 (Ventura) and later. Works on both Apple silicon and Intel Macs.
How do I change the text encoding?
Choose UTF-8 / UTF-8 (BOM) / UTF-16 LE / UTF-16 BE / Shift-JIS from the Encoding menu in the menu bar. Files are saved using the encoding you select.
How do I change the line ending (LF / CRLF)?
Choose Line Ending: LF / CRLF / CR from within the Encoding menu. Use CRLF for files headed to Windows.
How do I open a file?
Drag and drop a file onto the editing area, or choose File > Open…. You can also drag a text file from Finder straight into the app.
How do I show or hide spaces and tabs?
Toggle it from View > Show Spaces/Tabs. Half-width spaces appear as a middle dot, full-width spaces as □, and tabs as a subtle arrow.
How do I change the display language (English/Japanese)?
The app follows your system language setting. English is the default, switching to Japanese automatically on Japanese-language systems. You can also override this per-app from macOS System Settings > General > Language & Region.
Where is what I write stored? Is it ever sent anywhere?
NotepadAS never collects or transmits any data. Everything you create or edit stays only on your Mac. See the Privacy Policy for details.
